Jay Z

Shawn Corey Carter (born December 4, 1969), better known as Jay-Z, is an American rapper and current president and CEO of Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella Records, co-owns The 40/40 Club, and is a part owner of the New Jersey Nets NBA team. He has been one of the most successful American rappers of the past decade. In 2006, an MTV list named him the "Greatest MC Of All Time". [1]

Known for his use of freestyling abilities, flow, and blending of street and popular hip hop, Jay-Z became one of the most respected rappers in the music industry before his declared retirement in 2004. He is admired for his ability to craft lyrics from memory, without the use of pen and paper [2] (he claims his critically acclaimed album The Blueprint was written in only two days).[3] He also returned from retirement in October 2006; his new album Kingdom Come was released November 21st and was predicted to sell as many as 850,000 copies in its first week, which would make it the most successful CD debut of 2006 [1].
